Each week, we explore fascinating facts and inspiring wisdom from his life to help us bring his spirit of peace, humility, and joy into our everyday faith.
Week 3: Traditions & Sacrifices
Did You Know?
- In 1223, Francis created the first live Nativity scene in Greccio, Italy, using a real ox, donkey, and hay to honor Christ's humble birth.
- In 1224, he received the stigmata (the wounds of Christ), becoming the first recorded stigmatist in Church history.
- Named patron saint of ecology by Pope John Paul II in 1979.
